True Disciples

John 8:31-32 (ESV) So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Knowing the Truth of God's word and being a true disciple of Christ requires us to abide in the Word - the scriptures are life to our spirit! They bring healing to a broken-heart, strength to the weak, peace to the worrier, and courage to the downcast. Whatever you are facing today is not a surprise to God. He has help waiting for you, will you reach out and take it?

Abiding in Him is more than showing up to a church service on a weekly basis. It is a lifestyle. Freedom is not a license to sin - freedom is the ability to not be chained down by your sins. You have the choice between right and wrong and the Truth will set you free from the desire to say yes to the things of this world that are actually destroying you and weighing you down.

The Truth of God's word has set me free from my destructive lifestyle as a teenager - seeking the pleasures of the world and approval of man was not a healthy way to live. God has a bigger and better plan for all of us. When we receive Christ and allow Him to transform our lives - we look back and wonder how the life we once lived was ever enjoyable? Wasting away paychecks on alcohol and bars, living selfishly, wondering what I could get rather than what I could give. It was all temporary pleasures filled with nights of regret and shame. Living in fear of what would happen if I died - it was a terrible way of life.

I am so thankful for the freedom I have in Jesus - I now choose to worship Him daily for all He has done for me. Salvation was not deserved and the blessings are just the icing on top. If Jesus never did another thing for me, I am okay with that. His sacrifice was more than enough and His grace is sufficient! Let's choose to be a true disciple of Christ - He is worth it!

2 Corinthians 12:9 (AMP) But He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.
