A Thankful Heart

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT) Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

Colossians 4:2 (NLT) Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

The love of God is so deep, so wide, so high, so immeasurable and unfathomable, that no matter how terrible your darkest hour is, His love will cover you and fill you with peace. I've been in situations where the circumstances were so bad that I had no idea what move to make next and I even tried to be angry because that was the default emotion when everything was out of my hands but all I could do was praise! I remember being thankful that I had Jesus to run to because 18 years ago I would have turned to shallow friends and alcohol to deal with my emotions and uncertainty.

I love thanking God every morning for a new day and new mercies, I'm grateful that I have the Bible to turn to for encouraging scriptures and guidance as well as my relationship with Jesus. There is nothing I can say that will surprise Him and He is always willing to help me. I am thankful that I can pray my way through each day and pray for the needs of others - watching God work in the lives of those we lift up in prayer is always spiritually fulfilling. Each night I pray for my family and thank God for our health, our home, our church, their schools, having reliable transportation, His provision, the people He puts in our lives, the work of the Cross and many other things but those are always the core. As we celebrate Thanksgiving with or without our loved ones this week, take time to thank God for all He has done and for His goodness.

If you wake up tomorrow with everything you have thanked God for today, what would remain? Selah.

Colossians 3:17 (NLT) And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (MSG) Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

Psalm 34:1 (NLT) I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.
